Back to back victories as Emma Pallant wins Ironman70.3 Lanzarote

Oct 06, 2019

Emma Pallant took another outstanding victory, this time in IM70.3 Lanzarote. After her fantastic win in IM70.3 Portugal, it was Emma’s second IM70.3 victory in less then a week time. Pallant crossed the finish line in a time of 4:08:14. Alexandra Tondeur (BEL; 4:10:36) finished in second place as Jeanne Collogne (FRA; 4:11:36) came home in 3rd.

The swim was cancelled, due to adverse conditions. The race started at the beginning of the transition zone as the athletes had to run through T1 and jump on their bike. In the first 22k a leading group of 4 athletes was formed. One of those athletes was Emma Pallant. Towards the halfway mark of the tough bike course, they dropped Collogne. In the second part of the bike leg, the leading trio continued to open up a big gap on the rest of the field. Emma reached T2, accompanied by Hall and Tondeur. From the very first meters, Pallant pushed the pace to break away from the other athletes. After only 3 kilometers, the advantage of Pallant has grown to 46 seconds. The heat on the run didn’t bother the BMC-Vifit athlete too much as she kept her pace high and kept extending her lead on her first chasers. Pallant put together another dominating run to cross the finish line in a winning time of 4:08:14. Her second win in less then a week’s time and her fourth IM70.3 victory of the season.

Afterwards a very happy Emma Pallant reflected on her performance: “A win at IM70.3 Lanzarote. Two 70.3's in six days was never going to be pretty hey. It was another amazing course with so much support. It really felt like racing at home. Shame about the swim, but I felt really good on the bike. From then on, I controlled the run in the heat. I’m super happy with this performance.” Emma’s teammate Manuel Küng toed the line in Lanzarote as well. Küng had a hard day on the bike and run. He crossed the line in 17th place.
